babel eedit

Hi,

Thanks for welcoming new contributors. Just a thought... as we're seeing many new contributors to this wiki that probably have little wiki experience, it may be helpful if you give them a little more guidance on how to add a Babel template. I would suggest to add the exact code that they can just copy-paste for 2 or 3 scenarios (if you speak a little Scots... if you're a native speaker... if you have profesisonal knowledge... ). The page you link to is unfortunately rather extensive and overwhelming :) Thanks again, keep up the good work. Effeietsanders (tauk) 23:40, 26 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Effeietsanders: Thanks. It needs improvement yes. Have actually made a suggestion to improve it here. Soothrhins (tauk) 07:52, 27 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Editathon eedit

Hey there. I'm working to support the group organising the editathon this weekend, drop me a line if you're interested? work email's on my profile. Sara Thomas (WMUK) (tauk) 09:16, 27 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

aaand I've just seen on meta that you're aware of the event, nevermind. Do still feel free to drop me a line though! Sara Thomas (WMUK) (tauk) 10:48, 27 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
(en) @Sara Thomas (WMUK): That's okay! There is a wheen of threads on this issue so no one person can be across it all! It might conflict with work, but I'll see what's going on and do what I can. You may have seen some Puckle Proposals (very much from a base-level-of-Wiki perspective) I've been suggesting/looking for help with. Are there any you can help with? Or get others to? Would be good to get some improvements on the go. Soothrhins (tauk) 13:33, 27 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
(en) Soothrhins there may be, aye. I'll make some enquiries and see what I can do. Infrastructure can be really helpful for smaller wikis... On the subject, are you familiar with wikidata at all? Translation of labels there would allow for the use of some tools here, which might be useful. I'm told that properties are a good place to start, happy to support if there's feeling here that it would be useful.Sara Thomas (WMUK) (tauk) 14:23, 27 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

(en) Soothrhins ooooh, it's one of my favourite projects to edit in, being doing more and more recently. Structured linked data, language agnostic. I've been looking into how translating a set of basic terms & properties into Scots on Wikidata might allow this wiki to use some tools, things like Article Placeholder, and wikidata infoboxes. It'd obviously be up to the community to decide whether they'd like those things to happen, and have that discussion, but I just wondered if it might be the kind of thing that would help.Sara Thomas (WMUK) (tauk) 15:11, 27 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

If you let me know I can update Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Typos with any non-controversial fixes (or, if you see any we already have we can revert. Keep up the good work. Cleanup help eedit

Hello, I have been identified by at least one person on Meta as having been part of the problem here (specifically in having created the redirect that was the original version of Pheesicist, as well as edits I made to Robert Burns). I never, ever wanted that and am truly sorry for any harm I have done. I would like to do what I can to help going forward. I imagine that small, repetitive tasks, not involving heavy text editing, might be the way for me to do that, but I do not want to make any assumptions. If you have suggestions of things I can do to improve things, I would appreciate them. If the suggestion is, “no, just stay far away from Sco WP”, well, then fair enough. LadyofShalott (tauk) 18:57, 5 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

(en) @LadyofShalott: Hi, I (and most other Scots speakers/wiki editors I've encountered) aren't interested in pointing fingers for past mistakes made in good faith. Thanks for your offer of help. There will definitely be things to do, and we'll do our best to support you along the way (I had been noting things non-Scots speakers can do on the editathon page, but I think they are all done now). If it is your thing, there is a Discord server community where there are discussions on improvements to make (as well as channels where you can get help on your Scots skills if you are looking to learn more). soothrhins (tauk) 13:45, 8 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello. eedit

I juist noticed that ye deletit the Electoral Prince page I made, and wanted tae ask if it wis really nessecary considering it had literally anly juist been put up. I would have come back tae edit & improve it later. I won't lie, I'm a teeny bit annoyed :( and you deleted it due tae "nae content" now we both know that isn't true. 146.198.120.158 (talk) 19:10, 20 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Yo. The main point is the twa teetles are actually different (Electoral Prince wis the heir tae an Electorate, rather than a "Hereditary Prince wis eften the heir tae a duchy or principality like Monaco or Saxe-Coburg an Gotha) as opposed tae a Croun Prince(ss) as the heir tae a kinrick. That's all. Please bare with me as I am till learning an trying my best. :( ALSO I literally JUST remembered I translated the Electoral Prince article frae the German ane. @Soothrhins: You're welcome! By the way, how is "forby" used? I know it's a Scots translation of "also" -- I'm looking to correct the grammatically incorrect usages of "an aa"... I'll leave correcting other Scotched English spellings of words and expanding articles to native Scots speakers... --Corsicanwarrah (tauk) 08:14, 25 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Corsicanwarrah: Was tagged in by soothrhins. The best analogue I can think of is using it as you would 'besides' in English. "X happent, forby Y" (X happened excepting Y) vs. "X happent, Y forby" (X happened, Y also happened). Entohist (tauk) 09:02, 25 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

(in Inglis) Next editathon eedit

Hey there, as a previous attendee of a Scots Wiki editathon, I thought you might like to know about the December event, Sat 12 & Sun 13th. In addition to the usual wiki support, this month I'm really excited to say that we'll have language support in place from the Scots Language Centre, who'll be online between 12-3 on Zoom on Saturday with us to help with any of your queries.

Hope to see you there! Sara Thomas (WMUK) (tauk) 13:53, 8 Dizember 2020 (UTC)

José María Téllez-Girón y Benavides, 7t o Osuna -> José María Téllez-Girón y Benavides, 7t Duke o Osuna eedit

I am such an idiot I just realised the mistake I made regarding the above page. Would you mind moving the link to the latter for me at all? Sorry and thanks in advance. Signed Tom AKA 51.6.94.254 (talk) 17:25, 23 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

I believe anyone can move pages. The problem here though is that there's not a single source on that page so it's not considered notable to this wiki; unless that's fixed it's just clutter and very likely to be removed when a VfD is started. my_hat_stinks (tauk) 17:56, 23 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
