Why did you revert my edit? (en)
eedit(en) It's just hilarious. It's like a comedy sketch, or a Viz strip, or something. The idea that speaking badly, in an unintelligible, thick regional accent, somehow turns English into a new language is beyond parody. This is the funniest thing I've read all year. What next? Pakistani English? Geordie? Thanks for the laughs, it's really cheered me up, especially the fact that you couldn't tell the difference between "Scots" and some American teenager taking the piss out of you.2A00:23C4:3984:3400:4808:4F88:6468:803D (talk) 13:15, 27 August 2020 (UTC) I removed this comment because it was uncivil. Why did you revert it? --108.17.71.32 (talk) 23:33, 28 August 2020 (UTC)
- (en) I appreciate that your edit was in good faith, I'm not sure that it's best practice to remove comments from talk pages, regardless of their civility. See for instance this page on enwiki's Talk page guidelines. James Hyett (tauk) 00:18, 29 August 2020 (UTC)

IP editor
eedit99.110.180.109, from 2010-11. Created a lot of articles, mostly in Scotched English. --Bangalamania (tauk) 16:32, 12 September 2020 (UTC)
- Cheers! James Hyett (tauk) 16:36, 12 September 2020 (UTC)
- Nae bother. 98.255.56.79 has been doing some similar as well in 2012. Like you say, they don't seem to be part of the same bot network as the others but still some very odd activities. --Bangalamania (tauk) 17:57, 12 September 2020 (UTC)
- Also just noticed 66.60.156.2, 2010-15. User page says they're an institutional IP, and Varlaam seems to have been in contact with them at the time. So sorry if I'm giving you more work to do! --Bangalamania (tauk) 14:26, 13 September 2020 (UTC)
- This is great, thanks! James Hyett (tauk) 16:49, 13 September 2020 (UTC)
Another? Special:Contributions/2A00:23C6:3704:D301:D9C:C7FF:A04A:82B? soothrhins (tauk) 06:55, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
- Not sure on this too? Special:Contributions/24.23.43.100 - soothrhins (tauk) 07:43, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks Soothrhins-- I think these (and probably those identified by Bangalamania above) would be more appropriate for a VfD than the PRAYER POWER IPs, simply because it's not as obvious (from the edit summaries) that they are clearly not people. I'll look into it further and try to start a VfD later today. James Hyett (tauk) 14:05, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
(in Inglis) Next Editathon!

A barnstar for you!

Hey, you might not speak Scots, but you certainly speak one more language than me. That definitely has to count for something, right? Haha. In all seriousness, you have done an amazing service to the Wikimedia movement by contributing here. You pretty much erased the entire years long contributions of subtle vandal that I never let myself take action on. Single-handedly, I might add! Just imagining what you are going to do for this project in the future brings me great joy. –MJL ‐Tauk‐☖ 06:45, 14 October 2020 (UTC) |
Merci beaucoup!! I've been caught up with some irl and enwiki stuff recently, but I've no intention of abandoning the scowiki community while there's still work to be done. James Hyett (tauk) 14:27, 14 October 2020 (UTC)

(in Inglis) Next editathon
eeditHey there, as a previous attendee of a Scots Wiki editathon, I thought you might like to know about the December event, Sat 12 & Sun 13th. In addition to the usual wiki support, this month I'm really excited to say that we'll have language support in place from the Scots Language Centre, who'll be online between 12-3 on Zoom on Saturday with us to help with any of your queries.
There are as always jobs that non/lower level Scots speakers can do - articles always need things like citations, categories, wikilinks & images. There's a lot of work like this to be done, and it's all really valuable!
Hope to see you there!Sara Thomas (WMUK) (tauk) 13:58, 8 Dizember 2020 (UTC)
Thanks! Sorry I missed the last one, I've been moving house. See you later in the week! James Hyett (tauk) 14:02, 8 Dizember 2020 (UTC)
- Great! Looking forward to it :) Sara Thomas (WMUK) (tauk) 16:28, 11 Dizember 2020 (UTC)

Feedback last time was that the language support was really helpful (and fun!), and we'd love to see you. We're looking mainly at improving articles to do with politics, particularly articles about politicians. More info, article lists, and sign up details on the event page: Wikipedia:Scots Wikipedia Editathon Januar 2021. Sara Thomas (WMUK) (tauk) 10:03, 27 Januar 2021 (UTC)
