Tuusula (Finnish pronunciation: [tuːsulɑ]; Swadish: Tusby, [ˈtʉːsbyː]) is a municipality o Finland. It belangs tae the Helsinki sub-region o the Uusimaa region. The municipality haes a population o 37,233 (31 Januar 2011).[2]

Geography eedit

Tuusula, lyin on the shores o Tuusulanjärvi lake, is locatit in the Uusimaa region. It covers an aurie o 225.46 square kilometres (87.05 sq mi) o which 5.95 km2 (2.30 sq mi) is watter.[1] The population density is 169.62 indwallers per square kilometre (439.3 /sq mi).

Tuusula haes three population centers. The admeenistrative centre is Hyrylä (aboot 19,500 residents), ither twa are Jokela (5,300 residents) an Kellokoski (4,300 residents). The remainin 4,400 residents are distributit tae the rural auries ootside o municipal centers.[6]

The neighborin communes are Vantaa tae the sooth, Nurmijärvi tae the wast, Hyvinkää tae the north, Mäntsälä an Järvenpää tae the north east, an Sipoo an Kerava tae the east.

The aurie in wha is nou Tuusula wis locatit in the lairger municipality o Sipoo. In 1643, it became a separate parish in the municipality, an in 1653, it became a separate municipality. Tuusula's bundaries hae no aaways remained the same: in 1924 the municipality o Kerava split frae here; in 1950 the municipality o Korso wis split atween Tuusula, Kerava, an Sipoo; an in 1951 the municipality o Järvenpää split frae here.

Durin the Crimean War (1853–1856), a Roushie garrison wis stationed in wha is nou Hyrylä. The modren parish maistly developed aroond it.

Follaein the fuitsteps o Aleksis Kivi, the Finnish naitional poet who spent the last years o his life in a hut on the shores o the lake, Jean Sibelius, Juhani Aho, an Pekka Halonen even established thair main residences here. Recently thir hooses hae acome tourist steids, especially Sibelius' hoose Ainola. An aa, Tuusula Lake Road on the eastren shore o the lake is an ootside museum.

The Jokela rail crash wis a rail crash which occurred on 21 Aprile 1996 here.

Jokela Heich Schuil wis the steid o the Jokela schuil shuitin, a schuil shuitin which occurrit on November 7, 2007, leavin 9 deid (includin the 18-year-auld perpetrator, Pekka-Eric Auvinen).[7][8]
