Etymology
eeditThe full name o the state is Veracruz de Ignacio de la Llave. Veracruz wis namit efter the ceety o Veracruz (in Inglis an Scots, literally: "True Cross"), which wis originally called the Villa Rica de la Vera Cruz. The suffix is in honor o Ignacio de la Llave y Segura Zevallos (1818–1863), who wis the govrenor o Veracruz frae 1861 tae 1862. The state’s seal wis authorizit bi the state legislatur in 1954, adaptin the ane uised for the port o Veracruz.[9]
