Etymology eedit
Rogaland is the Norse name o the region – revivit in modren times. Till 1919 the name o the coonty wis Stavanger amt. It haes been argued that the first element is the plural genitive case o rygir, the name o an auld Germanic tribe (see Rugians). The last element is land n 'land, region'. In Norse times the region wis alternatively cried Rygjafylki (see Ryfylke).
