The toponym Penpont means "brig-heid" in the Cumbric leid aince spoken in the region. [3]

The A702 road passes throu Penpont. Wast o Thornhill is crosses the River Nith on a twa-airched stane brig in Penpont pairish. It wis built in the 1760s efter the presbytery o Penpont raised £680 taewart the cost. Wark startit aboot 1774, bit in 1776 the brig clytit. The brig wis completit in 1778 an strenthent in 1930-31. The brig is a Category A leetit biggin.[4]

Penpont's Kirk o Scotland pairish kirk is a Gothic Revival biggin completit in 1867. It is a Category B leetit biggin.[5] It his an Art Nouveau Communion table made in 1923.

Penpont's war memorial wis made bi Glesga sculptor William Kellock Brown an instawed in 1920. It is a bronze statue o an infantryman wi his rifle pyntin dounwart, his haunds restin on the butt an his heid slicht boued.
