The ceremonial an nan-metropolitan coonty o Somerset (Listeni/ˈsʌmərsɛt/ or /ˈsʌmərst/) in Sooth Wast Ingland borders Bristol an Gloucestershire tae the north, Wiltshire tae the east, Dorset tae the sooth-east, an Devon tae the sooth-wast. Its traditional northren border is the River Avon, but the admeenistrative boondary haes crept soothwairds wi the creation an expansion o the Ceety o Bristol, an latterly the coonty o Avon an its successor unitary authorities tae the north.[1] Somerset's coonty toun, Taunton, is in the sooth.
