eeditAccording tae the 2002 census o the National Statistics Institute, the commune o Palmilla spans an aurie o 237.3 km2 (92 sq mi) an haes 11,200 inhabitants (5,825 men an 5,375 weemen). o these, 2,088 (18.6%) lived in urban auries an 9,112 (81.4%) in landwart auries. The population grew bi 3.1% (336 persons) atween the 1992 an 2002 censuses.[2]
The urban aurie o Pamilla forms a conurbation wi the ceety o Santa Cruz, tae the sooth, totaling 20,691 inhabitants.

eeditAs a commune, Palmilla is a third-level admeenistrative diveesion o Chile administered bi a municipal cooncil, headed bi an alcalde who is directly electit every four years.
Athin the electoral divisions o Chile, Palmilla is representit in the Chamber o Deputies bi Mr. Ramón Barros (UDI) an Mr. Juan Carlos Latorre (PDC) as pairt o the 35t electoral district (thegither wi Placilla, Nancagua, Chépica, Santa Cruz, Lolol, Pumanque, Peralillo, Navidad, Litueche, La Estrella, Pichilemu, Marchihue an Paredones).
