Northren Krai
Northren Krai (Roushie: Северный край, Severny Krai) wis a krai (a first-level admeenistrative an municipal unit) o the Roushie Soviet Federative Socialist Republic frae 1929 tae 1936.[1] Its seat wis in the ceety o Arkhangelsk. The krai wis locatit in the North o European Roushie, an its territory is currently dividit atween Arkhangelsk, Vologda, Kostroma, an Kirov Oblasts, the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, an the Komi Republic.

eeditThe krai wis establisht on 14 Januar 1929 bi the Aw-Roushie Central Executive Committee. The territory o the krai wis formit frae three govrenorates (Arkhangelsk, Vologda, an Northren Dvina) an the Komi-Zyryan Autonomous Oblast.[2]
On 15 Julie 1929 the Aw-Roushie Central Executive Committee issued a decree splittin Northren Krai (wi the exception o the Komi-Zyryan Autonomous Oblast, which remain as a single unit wi the seat in Ust-Sysolsk, an the islands o Vaygach, Kolguev, Matveyev, Novaya Zemlya, Solovetsky Islands, an Franz Josef Land) intae five admeenistrative destricts (okrugs)[3]
- Arkhangelsk Okrug (wi the seat locatit in Arkhangelsk;
- Nenets Okrug (wi the borders an the seat tae be defined);
- Northern Dvina Okrug (Veliky Ustyug);
- Nyandoma Okrug (Nyandoma);
- Vologda Okrug (Vologda).
Afore the krai wis establisht, the diveesion o its constituent govrenorates mixed the auld diveesion inheritit frae the Roushie Empire (uyezds) wi the new ane (destricts, or raions). The same decree establisht the diveesion o the krai intae destricts. Aw okrugs an the Komi-Zyryan Autonomous Oblast wur dividit intae destricts, an the Airctic ocean islands remained subordinate tae the Krai executive committee.

On 10 Februar 1934, Novaya Zemlya, Vaygach, an a nummer o smawer islands in the Barents an Kara Seas wur muivit tae the Nenets Naitional Okrug. Bi 1936, the Krai includit 65 destricts.[2]
On 5 Mairch 1936, Pechorsky Okrug which wis a pairt o the Northren Krai wis establisht. The Okrug includit three destricts, Izhemsky, Ust-Tsilemsky, and Ust-Usinsky, an a pairt o Troitsko-Pechorsky Destrict. This wis relatit due tae the beginnin o the coal minin in the north o wha is nou the Komi Republic.
Accordin tae the 1936 Soviet Constitution, Northren Krai wis abolisht, an its territory wis dividit atween newly establisht Northren Oblast an Komi Republic. Northren Oblast includit 54 destricts an wis in 1937 split intae Arkhangelsk an Vologda Oblasts. Three o the destricts o Northren Krai, Lalsky, Oparinsky, an Podosinovsky, as the result o some later admeenistrative chynges, endit up in Kirov Oblast. Pavinsky an Vokhomsky Destrict wur later transferred intae Kostroma Oblast.
