New Taipei Ceety (Cheenese: 新北市; pinyin: Xīnběi Shì^[1]) is the maist muckle ceety o Taiwan. The aurie includes a substantial stretch o Taiwan's northren coastline an surroonds the Taipei Basin. New Taipei completely surroonds Taiwan's caipital ceety Taipei, an is bordered bi Taiwan Province in several directions: Keelung tae the northeast, Yilan Coonty tae the sootheast, an Taoyuan Coonty tae the soothwast.

New Taipei haed been admeenistered as Taipei Coonty (Cheenese: 臺北縣 or 台北縣) o Taiwan Province till its reorganization as a direct-controlled municipality on 25 December, 2010. Initially the offeecial Inglis version o the ceety's name wis Xinbei City.^[2]^[3] The new mayor Eric Chu requestit the name New Taipei City as the offeecial Inglis renderin insteid.^[4] The Meenistry o the Interior (MOI) approved the request on December 31.^[5]
