Three castles existet in the parish o auld Cumnock, namely Borland, Terringzean an Lefnories or Lochnorris. Lefnories wis the lairgest an wis replaced as a dwelling by Dumfries Hoose, wi ainlie the below grund foondations remainin, whilk wur excavatet bi the Marquess o Bute in the late 19th century.
