The faimily Campanulaceae, for ordinar cried the bellflower faimily, o the order Asterales, contains nearly 2400 species in 84 genera o herbaceous plants, shrubs, an rarely smaa trees, eften wi milky non-toxic sap.[2] Amang them are the familiar gairden plants Campanula (bellflower), Lobelia, an Platycodon (balloonflouer).

This faimily is almaist cosmopolitan but concentrated in the Northren Hemisphere. Houiver in the Soothren Hemisphere, Sooth Africae is remarkably rich in members o this faimily. Thir species are absent in the Sahara, Antarctica, Northeast Asie an northren Greenland.

Maist current classifications include the segregate faimily Lobeliaceae in Campanulaceae as subfaimily Lobelioideae.
