Al Kufrah Destrict
Al Kufrah (Arabic: الكفرة Al Kufra), an aa spelled Cufra, is the lairgest destrict o Libie. Its caipital is Al Jawf, ane o the oases in Kufra basin. [3] There is a vera lairge oil refinery near the caipital. In the late 15t century, Leo Africanus reportit an oasis in the land o the Berdoa, visitit bi a caravan comin frae Awjila. It is possible that this oasis wis identical wi either the Al Jawf or the Taiserbo oasis, an on early modren maps, the Al Kufra region wis aften labelled as Berdoa based on this report. The name Kufra itself is a derivation frae kafir, the Arabic term for non-Muslims.[4] Al Kufra did no faw unner the dominion o either the Arabs or the Ottomans an wis colonized bi Arabized Berber tribe o the Zuwayya anerlie in the mid 19t century, an eventually bi the Italians bi the 1930s.
