William Hershaw

William Hershaw (born Newport on Tey, Fife, 19 Mairch 1957) is a Scots makar, playwricht, muisicker and Scots leid activist.

Hershaw's foremaist collect o poyetrie, The Cowdenbeath Man, (Scottish Cultural Press, 1998) wis a serie of elegies scrieved anent the clyte o the coal minin industrie in Central Fife. He wan the Callum MacDonald Memorial Award fur Winter Song in 2005, an The McCash Prize for Scots Poetry in 2011.

In 2012 he reconvened The Bowhill Players (a drama company first foonded bi playwricht Joe Corrie durin the General Strike o 1926) as a muisical ensemble performin at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, scrievin new muisical settins fur Corrie's poyetrie.

His maist recent wark haes a Scots version of The Tempest and Michael (both 2015), a ballant play anent the medieval polymath Michael Scot o Balwearie.[1][2][3]
