Trainspotting (novel)
Trainspotting is the first novel bi Scottish writer Irvine Welsh, first published in 1993. It taks the form o a collection o short stories, written in Scots, Scots Inglis or Breetish Inglis, revolvin aboot various residents o Leith, Edinburgh wha either uise heroin, are friends o the core group o heroin uisers, or engage in destructive activities that are implicitly portrayed as addictions that serve the same function as heroin addiction. The novel is set in the late 1980s[1] an haes been cawed "the voice o punk, grown up, grown wiser an grown eloquent".[2]

The novel haes since achieved a cult status, added tae bi the global success o the film based on it, Trainspotting (1996), directed bi Danny Boyle.[3] Welsh wrote a sequel, Porno, in 2002. Skagboys, a novel that serves as a prequel, wis published in April 2012.[4]
