Shan State
Shan State (Burmese: ရှမ်းပြည်နယ်, pronounced: [ʃáɴ pjìnɛ̀]; Shan: မိူင်းတႆး [mœ́ŋ tɑ́ɪ]) is a state o Burma (Myanmar). Shan State borders Cheenae tae the north, Laos tae the east, an Thailand tae the sooth, an five admeenistrative diveesions o Burma in the wast. Lairgest o the 14 admeenistrative diveesions bi land aurie, Shan State covers 155,800 km², amaist a quairter o the tot aurie o Burma. The state gets its name frae the Shan fowk, ane o several ethnic groups that inhabit the aurie. Shan State is lairgely rural, wi anerlie three ceeties o significant size: Lashio, Kengtung, an the caipital, Taunggyi.[3]
