The municipality o Guadalupe, which lees adjacent tae the east side o Monterrey, borders the municipalities o San Nicolás de los Garza, Apodaca, Pesquería, an Juárez an aw. Coverin a territory o 151.3 km², it is locatit at 25°41′N 100°16′W / 25.683°N 100.267°W, at an altitude o 500 meters abuin sea level. As o the 2005 census its offeecial population wis 691,434 in the ceety an 691,931 in the entire municipality. It is the seicont-lairgest ceety an municipality in the state. The municipality haes an aurie o 151.3 km² (58.42 sq mi).
The ceety wis foondit on 4 Januar 1716, but the land wis inhabitit lang afore that. When Monterrey wis foondit in 1596, the land, which wis populatit bi various indigenous tribes, wis cedit tae Diego de Montemayor, the foonder o Monterrey, but he did no mak uise o the land. In 1627, the land wis turned intae lairge plantations, whaur succar cane an corn wis raised. The awner o the land durin aroond the time o the turn o the 18t century wis namit Capitán Nicolás Ochoa de Elejalde, but the land wis taken frae him bi the Spainyie govrenment an convertit intae a mission in Februar 1715. In 1756, the ceety wis renamit the "Pueblo de la Nueva Tlaxcala de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe de Horcasitas". On 5 Mairch 1825, the ceety wis declared a municipality o Nuevo León an categorizit as a villa, even tho for mony years it continued tae be cried the "Villa de Guadalupe".
