Daewoo Tico
The Daewoo Tico is a city car produced by the Korean automaker GM Daewoo from 1991 to 2001 and from 1996 to 2008 from the Egyptian Speranza.
The Tico was based on the 1988 Suzuki Alto. The car was equipped with a three-cylinder 796 cc S-TEC ingine an had a five-speed manual transmission or three-speed automatic transmission. The Tico was exported to Europe, mainly to eastern markets. It was hichtlie popular in six countries as: Romanie, Bulgarie, Macedonie, Poland an Czech Republic. It was an aa exportit tae Latin Americae whaur it an aa was named Daewoo Fino for some markets. It was especially popular in Peru.
Daewoo expanded to Western Europe at the beginning o 1995, but the Tico was never sauld in ony o thir markets, awtho its successor (the Matiz) wis launched thare in 1998 an went on tae be a great sales success.
Ower its years o production, the Tico haes seen serious modifications, maistly tae the ingine. Oreeginally equipped wi a carburetor (47 bhp), it wis later upgradit tae fuel injection, sicweys reachin Euro 2 pollution standard. Injection gae an increase o pouer. Some versions o the Tico in the Korean domestic mercat wur pouered on liquefied petroleum gas.
Daewoo assembled the Tico at the auld Oltcit factory in Romanie, an at the FSO factory in Poland.
In 2000, the Tico wis replaced wi a new caur, the Daewoo Matiz. The Tico wis sauld alangside the Matiz till 2001.
