Alvito wis cried in antiquity "Albitum", an wis later a possession o the Abbey o Montecassino, an then o the Coonts o Aquino an the Cantelmo faimily.

Alvito wis the seat of a Duchy, creatit in 1454, on the boondar o the Kinrick o Naples (later, Kinrick o the Twa Sicilies). Alvito, thegither wi Sora, remained faithful tae the Angevine line durin the conquest o Alfonso V o Aragon, bein conquered bi the Aragonese anerly in 1496. Later it wis a possession o the Gallio faimily.
