Ujar Rayon

Ujar Rayon (Ucar Rayonu^[1]) is a rayon (admeenistrative destrict) o Azerbaijan, situatit tae the sooth o Goychay, in the centre o the kintra. This region contains the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline tae the sooth o the Shirvan plain. Thare are 32 veelages an 1 ceety in Ucar. The lairgest commonties are Qazyan, Müsüslü an Qarabörk.

In 2009, Ujar Rayon haed an estimatit population o 77,900 fowk, o which 22% wur urban dwallers an 78% rural.^[2] The population is 99.7% Azeri.

History

The name Ucar derives frae the Turkic wird "Ucqar" meanin "remote", as Ucar wis remote frae the Shirvanshah caipital at Baku, an on the frontier o the Shirvan state.^[3]

The Ujar Rayon wis creatit on 24 Januar 1939 as an independent admeenistrative unit frae pairt o Goychay Rayon.^[4]
