It wis creatit on 8 Dizember 1966 as Ivano-Frankivsk Raion. Since 28 Mairch 1982 the name o raion is Tysmenytsia when the admeenistrative centre o it became the ceety o Tysmenytsia.

The admeenistrative centre o the raion, Tysmenytsia, is anerly 11 kilometre (6.8 mi) awa frae Ivano-Frankivsk.
