The Tarf Watter is a river in the historical coonty o Wigtounshire in Dumfries an Gallowa, Scotland. It rises on the Ayrshire mairch(55°00′17″N 4°46′53″W / 55.0048°N 4.7815°W) an flowes in a generally sootheastlins direction tae meet the River Blaidnoch near the veelage o Kirkcowan.(54°54′37″N 4°34′45″W / 54.9103°N 4.5792°W). It haes no major tributarys bit is fed bi a rowth o burns that tuim an aurie chairacterised bi drumlins, an muckle o whit haes been afforestit.[1]
The name Tarm derives fae the Proto-Indo-European leid root *tauro- "bull, auroch".
