Stanislav Petrov

Stanislav Yevgrafovich Petrov (Roushie: Станисла́в Евгра́фович Петро́в; born 7 September 1939 in Vladivostok[1]; died 19 Mey 2017) wis a retired lieutenant colonel o the Soviet Air Defence Forces.

Petrov judged the report tae be a false alarm,[2] an his decision is creditit wi haein preventit an erroneous retaliatory nuclear attack on the Unitit States an its NATO allies that could hae resulted in lairge-scale nuclear war. Investigation later confirmed that the satellite waurnin seestem haed indeed malfunctioned.[3]
