The municipality wis established on 15 Mairch 1825. The first primar schuil wis biggit in 1975, an a halth clinic wis established in 1978. In 1989 electricity wis introducit, an in 1994 a "tele-seicontar" schuil wis creatit. Potable watter supplees wur introducit in 1998. As o 2005, the municipality haed 1,256 hoosehauds wi a tot population o 5,503 o whom 1,384 spoke indigenous leids.[1]
