Agricultur is the main economic activity.[1] Temaxcaltepec is ane o the centres o the Chatino fowk, relatit tae the Zapotec but wi a distinct leid.[2] Municipal representatives are selectit accordin tae the tradeetional indigenous seestem (usos y costumbres). In Dizember 2007 thare wur disturbances when the state electoral authority failed tae recognize the leaders who haed been selectit in this wey.[3]
