eeditAccording tae the 2002 census o the National Statistics Institute, San Vicente spans an aurie o 475.8 km2 (184 sq mi) an haes 40,253 inhabitants (20,095 men an 20,158 weemen). o these, 21,965 (54.6%) lived in urban auries an 18,288 (45.4%) in landwart auries. The population grew bi 14.5% (5,086 persons) atween the 1992 an 2002 censuses.[2]

eeditAs a commune, San Vicente is a third-level administrative division administered bi a municipal cooncil, headed bi an alcalde who is directly electit every four years.
Athin the electoral divisions o Chile, San Vicente is representit in the Chamber o Deputies bi Mrs. Alejandra Sepúlveda (PRI) an Mr. Javier Macaya (UDI) as pairt o the 34t electoral district, (thegither wi San Fernando, Chimbarongo, San Vicente, Peumo, Pichidegua an Las Cabras). The commune is representit in the Senate bi Andrés Chadwick Piñera (UDI) an Juan Pablo Letelier Morel (PS) as pairt o the 9t senatorial constituency (O'Higgins Region).
