Raka, Krško
Raka (pronounced [ˈɾaːka]; German: Arch[2]) is a veelage in the Municipality o Krško in eastren Slovenie. The aurie wis tradeetionally pairt o Lawer Carniola. It is nou includit wi the rest o the municipality in the Lawer Sava Statistical Region.[3] The veelage is kent for a quality variety o ingan.[4]

Name
eeditRaka wis attestit in written soorces in 1161 as Arch (an as Archa in 1249, an Arch in 1279). The Slovene name is derivit frae the common noun raka 'firthen claddin preventin watter erosion o a bank' or 'claddit chute carryin watter tae a mill'. Baith the Slovene an German names are ultimately derivit frae Laitin arca 'box'.[5]
Kirk
eeditThe pairish kirk in the centre o the dounset is dedicatit tae Saunt Lawrence an belangs tae the Roman Catholic Diocese o Novo Mesto. It is a Late Baroque kirk biggit atween 1799 an 1804 on the steid o an earlier biggin. It haes twa belfries.[6]
Raka Castle
eeditRaka Castle is a castle wast o the main dounset. It is ane o the auldest castles in Slovenie as far as written soorces are concerned, mentioned in documents datin tae the 12t century. It wis destroyed in a peasant revolt in 1515. The current biggin dates tae the major refurbishin an rebiggin in the late 18t an early 19t centuries.[7]
