Name
eeditThe Municipality o Bloke is namit efter the karst Bloke Plateau, ower which the majority o its 45 dounsets are scattered. The name Bloke wis first attestit in written sources in 1230 as Oblach (an as Oblukch in 1260, Oblakh in 1360, an Obloc in 1581). These early transcriptions indicate that the name wis oreeginally *Obloke, probably derivit frae the prepositional phrase *ob(ь) lǫky or *ob(ь) lǫkaxъ 'next tae the flood-meadae(s)'. Less likely theories connect the name tae the meanins 'next tae rough terrain' or 'arc, arch'.[3]
