While later albums hae a mair poleetical edge, Morbid Visions (alang wi the Bestial Devastation EP) is notable for "Satanic" themes. The baund said mony leerics wur fashioned efter those o Venom an Celtic Frost, as they coud no write in Inglis at the time; as late as 1987, Max Cavalera wis still translatin his leerics wird-for-wird, as evidencit bi the demo "The Past Reborns The Storms".

The album's soond is daith metal an the production is rather poor. In the liner notes o Roadrunner's reissue o the album (which includes the tracks frae the EP Bestial Devastation), Cavalera admits that the baund neglectit tae tune their guitars durin the sessions. Nanetheless, the collection is fondly regardit bi fans for its unassumin introduction tae wha became an influential baund, an the inclusion o Sepultura's earliest signatur sang, "Troops of Doom".

The oreeginal vinyl pressins o Morbid Visions featured the first muivement o Carl Orff's Carmina Burana ("O Fortuna") as an unnamit introduction. This composition wis left off the CD re-release, probably acause o copyricht issues.
