Awtho the melon is a botanical fruit (specifically, a berry), some varieties mey be considered vegetables rather than fruits. The wird melon derives frae Laitin melopepo,[1] which is the laitinization o the Greek μηλοπέπων (mēlopepon), meanin "melon",[2] itsel a compoond o μῆλον (mēlon), "aiple"[3] + πέπων (pepōn), amangst ithers "a kynd o gourd or melon".[4]
