Hopelchén Municipality
Hopelchén (Yucatec Maya: "place o five wells") is ane o the 11 municipalities in the Mexican state o Campeche. It is situatit inland in the north o the state. The municipal seat, an lairgest dounset, is the ceety o Hopelchén.

The municipality o Hopelchén is bordered tae the north an east bi the state o Yucatán; tae the sooth bi the municipality o Calakmul, an tae the wast bi the municipalities o Champotón, Campeche, Tenabo an Hecelchakán.
It covers 7,460.27 km², accoontin for 13% o the state's tot surface aurie.
Demografics eedit
The 2005 INEGI census reportit a population o 34,687, doun frae 36,271 in 1990. O the 1990 figure, 17,664 spoke ane o several indigenous leids, predominantly Yucatec Maya wi 14,983 an Ch'ol wi 2,039; the tot nummer o indigenous leid speakers haed fawen tae 15,416 bi 2005. Bi the 2010 census, the population haed increased back up tae 37,777 indwallers.
