Hebei (help·info) (Cheenese: 河北; pinyin: Héběi; Postal map spelling: Hopeh) is a province o the Fowkrepublic o Cheenae in the North Cheenae region. Its ane-character abbreviation is "冀" (jì), namit efter Ji Province, a Han Dynasty province (zhou) that includit wha is nou soothren Hebei. The name Hebei means "north o the river", referrin tae its location completely abuin the Yellae River.[2]

A common alternate name for Hebei is Yānzhào (燕趙), efter the state o Yan an state o Zhao that existit here durin the Warrin States Period o early Cheenese history.
