Götene Municipality (Götene kommun) is a municipality in Västra Götaland Coonty in wastren Swaden. Its seat is locatit in the toun o Götene.

When the first Swadish local govrenment acts went intae force in 1863, 20 rural municipal entities (each correspondin tae a pairish o the Kirk o Swaden) wur creatit in the aurie. The municipal reform o 1952 groupit them intae three new, lairger, units. Thir wur amalgamatit in 1967 tae form the present municipality.

The twa maist notable sichts in the municipality are the muntain/rig Kinnekulle (wi 306 meters the heichest pynt in the coonty) an the veelage Husaby, wi an auld kirk an kirk well, whaur the first Christian keeng o Swaden, Olof Skötkonung, is believit tae hae been baptizit.
