The name o the veelage means 'muckle clachan' (Scots Gaelic: Clachan Mòr) an micht derive fae a stane circle that umwhile stuid there.[2] There is the remeens o a circular pen on Barrack Knowe near Heich Clachanmore fermhoose.[3]
Clachanmore schuil is the maist kenspeckle biggin in the veelage. The biggin dates tae 1831[4] an wis the schuil for Ardwell. There is a smaw dominie's hoose neist door. Until 2003 it wis an airt gailerie, it is noo a preevat hoose.
