Chamula
San Juan Chamula is a municipio (municipality) an tounship in the Mexican state o Chiapas, wi ower 50,000 inhabitants. It is situatit some 10 km (6.2 mi) frae San Cristóbal de las Casas.[1]

Chamula is locatit in the Chiapas hielands, at an altitude o 2,200 metres (7,200 feet), inhabitit bi the indigenous Tzotzil Maya fowk, whose Tzotzil leid is ane o the Mayan leids.
The toun enjoys unique autonomous status athin Mexico. Nae ootside polis or militar are alloued in the veelage. Chamulas hae their awn polis force.
