The 2016 presidential campaign o Bernie Sanders, the junior Unitit States Senator frae Vermont, an former Congressman o the same, began with a formal announcement bi Sanders on Mey 26, 2015 in Burlington, Vermont, which followit an informal announcement on Aprile 30.[1][2]
Sanders had been considerit a potential candidate for Preses o the Unitit States, both as an Independent an a Democrat since at least November 2013. Although Sanders became an independent after briefly alignin wi the left-win Liberty Union Party in the 1970s, many o his views align wi those o the Democratic Pairty, he caucuses wi Democrats in the Senate, an he has confirmit that he is runnin as a Democrat.[3]
Sanders later lost the nomination tae Hillary Clinton.
