Arica Province (Spaingie: Provincia de Arica) is ane o twa provinces o Chile's northmaist an maist recently creatit region, Arica an Parinacota (XV). The province is bordered on the north bi the Tacna Province o Peru, on the sooth bi the Tamarugal Province in the Tarapacá Region, on the east the Parinacota Province an on the wast bi the Paceefic Ocean. Its caipital is the port ceety o Arica.

History
eeditOn 8 October 2007, Law 20.175 entered intae force, effective on 23 Mairch 2007. It wis signed by Preses Michelle Bachelet in the ceety o Arica. At a ceremony held on that fore-nuin, the commonty receivit in new milestane in its history.
The law dividit the umwhile Tarapacá Region into twa: the northren portion became the XV Arica an Parinacota Region, an the soothren portion remained the I Tarapacá Region.

eeditAccordin tae the 2002 census bi the Naitional Statistics Institute (INE), the province spans a aurie o 8,726.4 km2 (3,369 sq mi) an haed a population o 186,488 inhabitants (92,487 men an 94,001 weemen), givin it a population density o 21.4/km2 (55/sq mi). Atween the 1992 an 2002 censuses, the population grew bi 9.5% (16,184 persons).[2]

eeditAs a province, Arica is a seicont-level admeenistrative diveesion o Chile, consistin o twa communes (comunas): Arica in the northren portion an Camarones in the sooth. The coastal ceety o Arica serves as the provincial caipital. The province is admeenistered bi a presidentially appointit govrenor. José Durana Semir wis appointit bi preses Sebastián Piñera.[1]
