His mither sent him tae a French college in Ingland, but due tae problems registerin he decidit tae stay in Lunnon an wirk. Upon returnin tae Fraunce he teuk up guitar, influencit bi Inglis an American muisic. In 1970, he marriet an haed his first son continuin tae play in the cabarets an bars in the Rive Gauche o Paris.

Souchon signed his first contract in 1971 wi the Pathe-Marconi label but haed nae success. Bob Socquet, the airtistic director o RCA encouragit him tae perform his sang "L'amour 1930" at the Rose D'Or of Antibes contest. Souchon then began tae collaborate wi componer/arranger Laurent Voulzy (b. 1948); they wad write thegither, but each released albums unner his awn name. Souchon's first hit wis "J'ai 10 ans" (1974), frae the album o the same name. He continued releasin albums an in 1978 wrote the theme for François Truffaut's 1979 film Love on the Run (L'amour en fuite). At this time his seicont son wis born. In 1980, he wis invitit tae perform at l'Olympia. He began his actin career an aw, maist notably starrin in the 1983 film L'été Meurtrier. Follaein the album 'On avance', he left RCA an signed wi Virgin Records at 40 year auld. In 1989 "La beauté de Ava Gardner" wis votit best title o the year bi the Victoires de la Musique.

Then came Souchon's biggest hit "Foule sentimentale" frae 1993's million-sellin C'est déja ça. At the 20t anniversar o the Victoires de la Musique in 1995, Alain Souchon receivit the awaird for best "Chanson Originale" for his sang "Foule Sentimentale." In 1996, he receivit the "le Prix Vincent Scotto" award gien by the SACEM (Société des auteurs, compositeurs et éditeurs de musique) for his sang "Sous les Jupes des Filles". Souchon returned in 2005 wi the hugely successful album La vie Théodore which contained the hit single "...Et si en plus y'a personne".
