Wojtek (beir)

Wojtek (1942–1963; Pols pronunciation: [ˈvɔjtɛk]) wis a Sirian brown bear purchased, as a young cub, at a railwey station in Hamadan, Iran, bi Pols II Corps sodgers wha haed been evacuatit frae the Soviet Union. In order tae provide for his raitions an transportation, he wis eventually enleetit offeecially as a sodger wi the rank o preevat, an wis subsequently promotit tae corporal.[1] In later life, he leeved at the Edinburgh Zoo.
