Lang Brig
eeditThe "Lang Brig" (Turkis: Uzunköprü) gae its name tae the toun. The brig wis biggit atween 1426 an 1443 bi heid airchitect Muslihiddin on the orders o Ottoman Sultan Murad II. The auncient stane-biggit brig, which haes 174 airches, is 1,329 m (4,360 ft) lang an up tae 6.80 m (22.3 ft) wide. Some o the airches are pointit an some are roond. Uzunköprü is the langest stane brig in Turkey.
The brig wis made tae cross the Ergene River, which wis a naitural barrier for advances intae the Balkans for the Ottoman Empire; its auld name wis Ergene Brig (Ottoman Turkish: Cisr-i Ergene). It is sae lang in order tae cross a law-lyin mairshy aurie. The brig wis restored in 1963.
