Tom Schilling grew up in the umwhile East German burgh o Berlin Mitte. He wis discovered at the age o 12 bi stage director Thomas Heise, and cast in the stage play Im Schlagschatten des Mondes (Unner the shadae o the muin) at the Berliner Ensemble theatre company, which he stayed wi for the next fower years tae play in ither productions as well. Actin jobs earned him enough money tae muive oot o his parents' place when he wis 18 an still in schuil.[2] He left schuil wi Abitur certificate.

Schilling's screen actin debut wis in 1996, when he, agit 14, appeared in the Sat.1 TV series ‘Hallo, Onkel Doc!’ He wis later cast in the theatrical film Schlaraffenland (1999) whaur he played alangside Franka Potente, Daniel Brühl an Heiner Lauterbach, but the breakthrou for him came wi his performance in Crazy (2000, directit bi Hans-Christian Schmid), for which he receivit the Talented Young Actor Award o the Bayerischer Filmpreis.

In the creetically well-receivit 2004 film Before the Fall (German title: Napola – Elite für den Führer, directit bi Dennis Gansel) he played alangside Max Riemelt a young an fragile student at a Nazi elite schuil (Napola). In 2006, he receivit a scholarship for the Lee Strasberg Institute in New York, whaur he studiet for hauf a year. In the same year, he became a faither tae a son. Schilling wis later gien the role o the young Adolf Hitler in Urs Odermatt's 2009 film Mein Kampf (the UK DVD release is mercatit as Dawn of Evil: Rise of the Reich), co-starrin Götz George.[3]
