Sokuluk (Dungan: Сохўлў; Kyrgyz, Roushie: Сокулук) is a lairge veelage wi a population o roughly 17,000 in the Chuy Province o Kyrgyzstan.

Sokuluk is the admeenistrative centre o Sokuluk Destrict, an is locatit aboot 5 km away frae the toun o Shopokov, the main economic centre o the aurie.[1]

History

Accordin tae historians, Sokuluk stairtit its existence in the early 1880s, as a place o dounset o mony o the Dungan fowk who moved tae the Roushie Empire frae the Kulja (Yining) aurie atween 1881 an 1883, efter Roushie agreed tae athdraw its troops frae Kulja pursuant tae the Treaty o Saunt Petersburg (1881). [2]

Sokuluk is the birth place o the Dungan poet, writer, an educator Iasyr Shivaza (1906-1988).
