eeditThe predecessor o the day's Shopokov Ceety wis an urban-type settlement named Krasnooktyabrsky (Краснооктябрьский, i.e. "Red October"), established in 1939 alang wi the construction o a sugar mill.[2] Shopokov wis incorporatit as a toun (город) an received its present name on Februar 25, 1985.[1]
The toun is named efter Duyshenkul Shopokov, ane o the 28 sodgers o Ivan Panfilov's Diveesion who wur reportit tae dee heroically on November 16, 1941 while defendin Moscow.[1]
