The canton lees on a fertile plain at the soothren end o the Central Valley (Valle Central). The "Río Virilla" an "Río Torres" fuirm the border on the north, whilk the Río Tiribí marks the soothren boondar. The canton encompasses San José Centro, awtho the Greater Metropolitan Aurie reaches far ayont in aw directions.
Elevation averages 1,290 meters abuin sea level.
The Mayor o San José Canton is Sandra García Pérez (Partido Liberación Nacional).
