The docks an sorrels, genus Rumex L., are a genus o aboot 200 species o annual, biennial an perennial yerbs in the buckwheat faimily Polygonaceae.

Members o this faimily are very common perennial yerbs growin mainly in the northren hemisphere, but various species hae been introduced almaist everywhaur.

Some are nuisance weeds (an are whiles cried dockweed or dock weed), but some are grown for thair edible leaves.

Rumex species are uised as fuid plants bi the larvae o a nummer o Lepidoptera species - see leet o Lepidoptera that feed on Rumex.
