Patacamaya is a ceety in Bolivie, situatit in the La Paz Depairtment. It is the seat o the Patacamaya Municipality, the fift municipal section o the Aroma Province. Patacamaya lees in the Altiplano, approximately 100 km sootheast o La Paz. It contains the intersection atween 'Carretera 1' which goes frae La Paz tae Oruro, as well as Cochabamba, an the 'Carretera Arica-La Paz'. The 'Tambo Quemado' heich-gate is ane o the maist important internaitional roads that travels through Bolivie.[1][2]

Observatory

Situatit 3789 meters abuin sea level, Patacamaya is a prime location for astronomical observation. Its lichtly populatit aurie keeps licht pollution at a minimum, makkin it an ideal place for an observatory. The 'Observatorio de Patacamaya' wis built in 1973 wi help o the Soviets. Housomeivver, syne 1983, the UMSA (Universidad Mayor de San Andres) haes been maintainin the observatory.

The telescope in the observatory is a Celestron telescope o 40 cm diametre. The observatory contains twa astro-cameras an AFU-75 an aw, an CCD SBIG ST-5 amang ither astronomical equipment. This equipment haes been extremely uiseful for students researchin such events as the passin o Halley's Comet an the Shoemaker Levy 9 Comet.[4]
