It haes 1,794 indwallers as o the 1998 census an is the least populatit, lairgest, an least densely populatit ane o the twa municipalities which form the province (the ither ane bein Tindouf).

Ane o its veelages, Hassi Mounir, is ane o the kintra's projects tae introduce solar energy in Algerie, an haes 42 hooses connectit tae solar energy.[1] The naitural ressources o the municipality (travertine, saund, an cley, amang ithers) are still unexploitit due tae the existence o a lairge hamada (rock desert) in the region. Thare are projects for the creation o a glass factory, a freestane factory, an for a factory specialised in processin limestane products.[2]
