Nonthaburi Province

Nonthaburi (Thai: นนทบุรี) is ane o the central provinces (changwat) o Thailand. Neighborin provinces are (frae north clockwise) Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Pathum Thani, Bangkok an Nakhon Pathom.

Nonthaburi is locatit directly northwast o Bangkok on the Chao Phraya river. The province is pairt o the greater Bangkok Metropolitan Aurie. In maist parts it is as urbanized as the caipital, an the boondary atween the twa provinces is nearly unrecognisable.

Nonthaburi wis declared a ceety in the middle o the 16t century, which wis previously a village named Talat Khwan. Durin the reign o King Prasat Thong, a canal wis dug tae create a shortcut o the flow o the Chao Phraya. The river chynged its flow intae the new canal, which is still the riverbed today. In 1665 King Narai built a fortress, as the shorter riverway wis givin enemies an easier way tae the caipital Ayutthaya. The toun wis then an aa moved near the fortress.
