Mileto wis a Norman stranghauld unner Roger I o Sicily, the last great leader o the Norman conquest o soothren Italy. He dee'd here o auld age in 1101. Roger's son an a Coont o Sicily an aw, Simon dee'd in the toun in 1105, when he wis 12 year auld.

Simon's brither an successor Roger II wis born here in 1095. He began his rule as Coont o Sicily in 1105 an later became Duke o Apulie ane Calabrie in 1127. He became the first Keeng o Sicily in 1130.

In 1807 it wis the location o the Battle o Mileto atween the French an Neapolitan airmies.

Mileto suffered frae numerous yirdquauks, especially frae those o 1905 an 1906, an, awtho in a less degree, frae that o 28 Dizember, 1908, which destroyed Reggio an Messina.
