Martuni (Մարտունի, Romanised as Martuny an aw; oreeginally, Mets Kznut, frae 1830-1922, Karanlug, Nerkin Karanlukh, Nerkin Gharanlugh, an Roushifee'd as Nizhniy-Karanlug) is a ceety locatit in the Gegharkunik Province (marz) o Armenie. It is near Lake Sevan whilk is a lairgest lake in the Caucasus. Its population is estimatit tae be 11,987 as o 2008. In auncient times it wis kent as Mets Kznut, but frae 1830-1922 it wis cried Nerkin Gharanlugh an in 1926 it wis chyngit tae Martuni in honour o the first Soviet premier o Armenie, Aleksandr Myasnikyan, whase nom de guerre wis "Martuni". Martuni wis the umwhile caipital o Gegharkunik Province. Martuni haes a kirk cried Astvatsatsin kirk whilk wis rebuilt in 1886. There is an Iron Age fort excavatit in 1997 bi an Armenie-Italian team an aw.
